Why bother estimating?

Every food tracker asks you to search a database, pick the right entry, and estimate the weight with your eyes. That friction is why most people quit after a week.

Photograph instead of search

Snap the plate. Every visible item is identified for you, with an estimated weight based on how it looks next to your plate or hand.

Per-ingredient breakdown

Not just a total. See exactly how many calories come from the salmon versus the rice, so you can see what to change.

Turn it into a recipe

Already have ingredients at home? Turn them into a step-by-step recipe with quantities, timings and a shopping list for what you are missing.

A scanner you forget is useless

A number you write down and never look at again does nothing for you. PlateParse keeps a running log so you can see the pattern: which meals repeat, where your protein comes from, what actually changed.

Log meals alongside movement and daily notes, then look at the trends side by side instead of guessing.

Questions

How accurate are the estimates?

Weights are estimated from visual cues, and nutrition values come from the USDA FoodData Central reference database. Real-world accuracy depends on how well the photo shows the food and how much oil or sauce is involved. Treat it as a guide, not a measurement.

Do I need to weigh anything?

No. If you want better accuracy you can override any weight manually after scanning.

What happens to my photos?

Images are processed in memory to produce the estimate and are not stored. Only the resulting numbers are saved to your log.

Is this medical advice?

No. PlateParse provides nutritional information for general reference. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional.

Which model reads my photo?

Image understanding runs on Google Gemini 2.5 Flash. Image understanding and recipe text are generated by Google Gemini 2.5 Flash.
